The Teaser Trailer For Pixar’s ‘Cars 3’ Is Here And It Is Weirdly Intense And Upsetting
This is meant to be a kids movie, right?
Of all the franchises in line for a dark, edgy reboot, I never imagined that Disney Pixar’s Cars would be one of them. I mean sure, the studio has ventured into some pretty dark territory before – who could forget the first six minutes of Up, or Buzz and Woody’s descent into a fiery chasm of death at the end of Toy Story 3?
Still, if the first teaser for Cars 3 is anything to go on, we ain’t seen nothing yet. Pixar’s latest movie doesn’t just look dark. It looks goddamn traumatising.
Hey…um…they’re not going to kill Lightning McQueen, are they? Because I was thinking of taking my nephew to see this movie, but I don’t really feel like explaining the concept of road fatalities to a six year old. Hell, this thing looks like it’ll give me nightmares.
Just saw the Cars 3 trailer. Hey, Pixar… are you okay?

CARS 3 ends with Mater using a pillow to snuff Lightning McQueen. A mercy killing. Mater's weeping. "I'll git 'er done, buddy."

According to Pixar’s official synopsis, Cars 3 sees McQueen, voice by Owen Wilson, “blindsided by a new generation of blazing-fast racers,” forcing him to seek the aid of “an eager young race technician, Cruz Ramirez, with her own plans to win.”
Cars 3 hits cinemas in June 2017. You have been warned.
