The Sydney Opera House Is Hosting a 24-Hour Pop Culture Fest With Shia LaBeouf And Dan Harmon
'BingeFest' will be literally 24 straight hours of pop culture events (including a Buffy marathon).
You know all those little things that you use to procrastinate on the internet — the cat videos, the Harambe memes (RIP) and the Buffy the Vampire Slayer tumblrs? Well, buckle up cowboy, because BingeFest is about to bring all your favourite internets together for an IRL, two-day pop culture festival that is absolutely packed with crazy events.
The festival, which will take place at the Sydney Opera House, will cover everything from games (like a Street Fighter tournament), to TV (a Buffy marathon hosted by The A.V. Club) and a Haramabe memorial service, which will look at the best viral memes of 2016. I can’t believe this is a real thing, and I feel thankful this day.
BingeFest is also hosting some pretty impressive guests, including Shia LaBeouf who with Nastja Säde Rönkkö and Luke Turner, will be creating a mass performance art space in the Opera House that guests will be free to participate in. Community writer Dan Harmon, will be on a TV writing panel as well as doing a live recording of his comedy podcast Harmontown. Executive producer of Serial Julie Snyder, will also appear on a panel about “binge-worthy” journalism.
There’s just a lot in this event, you guys. Other highlights include performer and activist Amrita Hepi, who will run Beyoncé and Rihanna dance classes (Amrita ran a dance class at Junket, so we know this will be 100 percent excellent), and a Internet Cat Video Festival which is in partnership with the RSPCA. Yes!
