John Oliver just begged Donald Trump to drop out of the presidential race. Now his old buddy Stephen Colbert has an idea about who could replace him. The Late Show host spent most of his Monday night opening monologue talking about the Olympics, and latched on to one athlete in particular who could be perfect fit for the oval office.

No, he wasn’t talking about the wonderful Simone Biles, although that would be incredible. Instead, the Olympian who most reminds Colbert of a presidential candidate is none other than disgraced swimmer Ryan Lochte.

This guy.

In case you somehow missed it, Lochte is the 12-time Olympic gold medalist and A-grade clown who told people he was held up at gunpoint in Rio in an apparent attempt to cover up the fact that he and his teammates had vandalised a gas station bathroom.

As Colbert puts it, “the whole world thinks of Lochte as that crazy American with the weird hair who keeps making stuff up and causing an international incident. Which is not how an Olympian acts. That is how a presidential candidate acts”

And yet he’d still probably make a better president than Trump.

Later in the program, Colbert also had an “exclusive interview” with Lochte, where the remorseful swimmer was given the chance to explain his actions.

Since news of his “over-exaggeration” broke, Lochte has lost an estimated $1 million worth of sponsorship deals. Good.
