Given the name of the show, you'd think this would happen more often.

It may have taken seven years of the program being on the air, but someone has finally won a million bucks on Channel Nine’s Millionaire Hot Seat. Australia’s newest millionaire is Adelaide grandfather Edwin Daly, who provided ten right answers on his way to nabbing the largest ever payout in the history of the deceptively named game show.

Pretty impressive, especially since he had to do it while looking at Eddie McGuire the whole time.

Why is this man still on television?

From the sounds of things, all those schmackos couldn’t have gone to a nicer fellow. The 67-year-old Daly is a Vietnam war veteran, and told Nine News that “I gave my mind for this country but by the grace of God I’ve got most of it back.”

Of course the surprise of Daly’s big win was spoiled a little by the network’s decision to run promos that revealed the result before the show even went to air. That’s just straight up bad spoiler etiquette.

Anyway, good job Edwin! Drinks are on you.
