Six Unexpected Places To Dine Alfresco That Will Improve Your Day

We should be eating every single meal in dog parks, end of conversation.

Brought to you by Pizza Hut

Pizza hut is all for good times, great memories and a love of pizza.

There are certain times in life when you need to be creative with your free time. Maybe your schedule is jam-packed; perhaps you’re on a limited budget… or both if you’re super lucky! Either way, it’s always worth using your imagination when making social plans — especially when those plans involve food.

Let’s be honest, we all know eating in bed is fun but sometimes you have to shake up your routine (and vacuum your sheets). Follow these suggestions below for inspiration for your next alfresco dining experience.

Dog Park

If you and your mates are after some budget-friendly fun that involves having your butt sniffed (sounds really specific but okay) look no further than the local dog park. Lay down a picnic rug and witness the most beautiful sight in the world: dogs making friends.

DIY Drive-In

A night out at the drive-in always sounds so good in theory but what if the closest cinema is hours away, or it’s pouring with rain and come to think of it, you don’t even own a car. Worry not, film buffs — simply use some handy gaffa tape to carefully affix a smartphone to your bicycle handles and perch in your backyard. Voila!

Aerial View Dining

Have you ever watched a bird fly overhead and wondered what the world looks like to them and also how majestic it must feel to urinate from the sky? Of course you have, you’re only human. Well, wonder no more — get a whole new perspective on your city by simply finding an accessible rooftop and watch the sun set over dinner. For a dash of nostalgia, sit on a rug and recreate the magic carpet scene from Aladdin. A whole new world!

Playground Picnic

Can you remember the last time you swung high on a swing or successfully maneuvered along monkey bars without dislocating a shoulder? If you answered no: what are you, some kind of square? Playgrounds are ridiculously fun for any age and make for a perfect lunch date — just be sure you aren’t frightening kiddies away when you shout out “weeeeeee!” while going down a slide. Don’t forget to bring a large stick of butter in case you get stuck half-way down and need to be helped out… it happens to the best of us.

Your Own Pop-Up Restaurant

These days you can’t walk 50 metres in the city without bumping into a pop-up business: some days it’s crazy milkshakes, other times it’s novelty clothing. We recommend using this trend to your advantage and setting up your own pop-up restaurant in your own front yard. If you’re at uni and live at college, an on-campus dining adventure could be your ticket to financial and social success* (*no guarantees). At the very least it will result in a pizza party, which is objectively the best social experience.

Campus Camp-Out

Camping is incredibly fun if you like dirt, bugs and being attacked by aggressive drop-bears. I recommend modifying this experience to suit your lifestyle by bringing a small tent to uni and creating your own campsite in the courtyard. No need for a fire (dangerous!) or tinned baked beans (flatulent!)… just get a meal delivered straight to you. It wouldn’t be a true camping experience without singalongs in a circle, but I can’t guarantee your fellow students will appreciate the impromptu concert.
