‘The Simpsons’ Creator Matt Groening Is Coming To Australia
He can finally see for himself which way the water goes down the toilet.
The genius behind The Simpsons and Futurama, and a man who may legitimately have had a bigger influence on my adolescence than my own parents, Matt Groening is coming to Australia. The cartooning czar will visit our shores for the very first time as a guest of the sixth GRAPHIC festival weekend, where he’ll present a talk titled ‘Secrets of The Simpsons, And A Couple Of Fun Milhouse Facts’ at the Sydney Opera House in the first week of November.
Seven News Has Been Flooded With Tips From ‘The Simpsons’ And Just Wised Up To Your Crap
“The most intense Simpsons fanatics I’ve met are from Australia, so I’m coming to Sydney to check out all you lunatics,” said Groening in a statement that accompanied the announcement. “I’m going to share stories of the making of The Simpsons and show embarrassing home movies and rarely-seen animation, including oddball outtakes and uncensored Itchy & Scratchy cartoons.”
Groening will be joined at GRAPHIC by his friend and fellow cartoonist Lynda Barry. Other guests include author Neil Gaiman, as well as local cartoonists Michael Leunig and First Dog on the Moon.
Of course Groening will need to be careful while travelling down under, since there are those who have not forgiven him for disparaging our fair nation back in the mid-90s – a bootable offence if there ever was one. Watch your back, Groening.
GRAPHIC is set to take place on November 4-5. For ticketing information, go here.
