Canadian country singer Shania Twain has revealed that given the chance, she would have voted for Donald Trump — which seems an odd choice considering the US President’s homophobic policies and the scientific fact that only gay men aged 30-60 listen to Shania Twain.

In an interview for The Guardianthe performer discussed a range of issues including her marriage, sexual abuse, her long hiatus from recording, as well as politics — claiming that if she’d had the opportunity to vote in the US election, she would have voted Republican.

“I would have voted for him because, even though he was offensive, he seemed honest,” said Shania Twain.

“Do you want straight or polite? Not that you shouldn’t be able to have both. If I were voting, I just don’t want bullshit. I would have voted for a feeling that it was transparent. And politics has a reputation of not being that, right?”

After the almost inevitable backlash — I mean, why would you even talk about voting Trump if you’re not a US citizen — the star walked back her comments, clarifying in a series of tweets that she does not “hold any common moral beliefs with the current President”.

Regardless of the apology, fans were not impressed at the news that their super-wealthy celebrity icon might be out of touch with their own views and morals. The backlash, especially from the LGBTQI+ community, was swift and sarcastic.

Honestly, why does Trump ruin EVERYTHING.
