Seagull Heroically Sacrifices Itself At The Cricket To Stop A Four, Makes Miraculous Recovery; Baggy Green Imminent
What a knock.
Something wonderful happened during the T20 Big Bash cricket match between the Perth Scorchers and the Melbourne Stars at the MCG last night. Scorchers batsmen Adam Voges smacked an onside shot that looked to be headed for four, until a seagull selflessly threw itself in front of the flying pill, knocking itself costing the Scorchers a likely two runs in the process.
The first on the scene was Stars fielder Robert Quiney, a former Test cricketer for Australia. Quiney callously mimed shooting the poor beast, possibly out of envy at its fielding abilities, before picking it up and carrying it to the edge of the field.
The commentators lauded the seagull’s bravery before doing what cricket commentators do best and recalling a bunch of similar instances from obscure matches in the 1980s, but the general consensus was that the seagull was on its way out, if not there already.
Then, a miracle occurred. With the crowd on its side and fire in its tiny bird heart, the seagull pulled itself back from the brink of death and got back on its feet, before promptly trying to attack Quiney for his perceived slight and settling back in its original position.
Word is still out on whether national selectors are vetting the seagull to replace Shane Watson at No. 3.
