On Budget Day, Australian comedian and Playground Politics legend Sammy J released a mysterious little clue about an upcoming series.

Now we have our first proper details!

The series will be called Sammy J’s Democratic Party and it’s reportedly coming to us “live from a bunker under Parliament House”. Details are scant at this stage, but so far we know that it will be a politics-focused short-form series made up of different threads, including a police drama called Constitutional Cops, a game show called Get Them to the Frontbench, plus new instalments of Playground Politics

There’ll be something for everyone in this weekly smorgasbord,” the show’s first promo material states. “Unless that person is Malcolm Turnbull or Bill Shorten.”

The plan is for the show to be as up-to-the minute as possible — as a result we (and, presumably Sammy J himself) don’t know what next week’s premiere episode will contain. With 2016’s Playground Politics having been praised for its cutting commentary veiled in plasticine Play School humour, however, the forecast is looking positive.

Sammy J’s Democratic Party hits ABC iview and Facebook at 5pm Wednesday, May 31. It’ll air on ABC TV at 10pm that night.
