For the last couple of years, the internet has been fascinated with the idea of getting people to read out mean stuff that other people have said about them. It might have started with Jimmy Kimmel’s segment ‘Celebrities Read Out Mean Tweets’ but since then we seem to see it every few weeks — and for some reason*, they’re usually directed towards a woman.

You might remember Muslim women reading mean tweets out about themselves, or more recently female sports writers getting male sports broadcasters to read out the abuse they cop. Now Full Frontal‘s Samantha Bee has taken part in a game in which she tries to guess which mean comments are real or fake.

*It might be because women disproportionately receive more internet hate than men.

The video is funny in parts and it primarily exists to mock trolls on the internet, but it’s kind of frustrating that we’re still getting women to relive abuse and hate for amusement, or to make a point. Just because some of the comments are dumb doesn’t mean the onslaught of criticism wouldn’t occasionally get these women down.

In other news, Samantha Bee also took part in another video today for People, in which she, Tracee Ellis Ross, Allison Janney, Kate McKinnon, and Niecy Nash discussed why they struggle with the idea that men can be funny. Happy Thursday!
