As Trevor Noah finishes off his second week as host of The Daily Show, the critics are fairly divided. Some have celebrated his confidence and intelligence in handling the impossible task of replacing Jon Stewart. Others have expressed concern about his relative inexperience and outsider status: is it enabling him to carve out a unique niche or will it be his downfall in an already crowded genre? Either way — despite relatively low ratings — the jokes are still mostly hitting home.

Thankfully, Ronny Chieng’s debut has been way less complicated. The much-celebrated Melbourne comedian has delivered his first segment as Senior Technology Correspondent overnight, and the response has been glowing. With his characteristic skepticism and deadpan humour, he’s taken aim at virtual reality devices, essentially called the Philharmonic Orchestra crap, and maybe revealed some latent father issues.

It was great.

Correspondent Ronny Chieng is still holding out for a few more advances in virtual reality. http://on.cc.com/1JV3SW4

“C’mon science,” he yelled. “How about [some virtual reality] where you can travel around the world and go deep-sea diving and your dad says he’s proud of you?”

Luckily, everyone else is proud enough already:
