The people of Melbourne have hit back at home affairs potato Peter Dutton over his ludicrous comments about an imagined crime wave that has apparently turned the city into a ghost town.

As the media continues to whip itself into a frenzy about Melbourne’s supposed African gang epidemic (click here to learn about why that’s not really a thing), state and federal Liberals have been tripping over themselves to blame the “crisis” on the Victorian Labor government.

Sidenote: 2018 is an election year, although that’s probably just a coincidence, right?

Never one to miss out on a race-based scare campaign, Dutton weighed in on the matter on Wednesday, telling Sydney radio station 2GB that “African gang violence” has made people in Melbourne “scared to go out to restaurants at night time because they are followed home by these gangs.”

In response, activist group GetUp! took to Twitter to suggest that anyone out for dinner in Melbourne take a photo of their meal to prove the minister wrong.

Turns out the only thing Melburnians love more than eating in restaurants is hanging shit on Peter Dutton. God I love this city.
