The cast of Netflix’s Queer Eye were divided over whether they’d be willing to have Donald Trump on their show, with Jonathan Van Ness firing up about the president’s “dangerous” policies during an interview on triple j.

The fab five appeared on triple j’s Hack podcast on Friday, and were asked about Trump by host Tom Tilley.

“Donald Trump loves reality television, is he begging to come on your show?” asked Tilley. “Would you take him on?”

“Me personally, I would,” replied Tan France. “It wouldn’t be to makeover his wardrobe, I couldn’t care less about what he puts on his body … but I think the more we expose who we are to him, the less republican dudes he’s hanging out with.”

“Just because I meet with someone doesn’t mean I have to support [their] political views,” agreed Karamo Brown, who recently met with Vice President Mike Pence’s wife, Karen Pence, at the White House. “I think it would be impactful, with our diverse views, to have a lunch date with him. Why not?”

But Van Ness was less convinced by the idea, arguing that others have already tried to influence Trump without success.

“I understand what you guys are saying, and I think when he was inaugurated I would have been on that train too,” said Van Ness. “But a lot of people have tried to humanise themselves in front of him and he’s methodically worked on ways to make sure that we can’t access healthcare in the way that we could. He’s also done a lot of work to sow disinformation, and really hurt people.”

“Actions speak louder than words, and I can’t normalise that behaviour, because I think it’s dangerous,” he added. “I’m not going to bring my hard work and my identity to someone who I know will not appreciate it.”
