Please Like Me’s New Season Is Nearly Here! Here’s A Very Happy Little Teaser To Celebrate

Everyone's singing! And dancing! Something terrible is probably about to happen.

When the third season of Please Like Me finished up last year, Josh was sitting alone on a park bench eating an entire trifle. His family had torn one another apart with the kind of mounting passive aggressive complaints families tend to make when stuffed into paper Christmas crowns and forced to spend time together. His friends were also all pushed away — left to deal with their own personal shit including mounting intimacy issues, a general sense of hopelessness, and in Hannah’s case, mental health struggles and self-harm.

There’s a reason we often talk about this show and sadness.

How ‘Please Like Me’ Embraced The Sadness Of The Sitcom And Became The Best Show On TV

Thankfully things are looking much more optimistic in the just-released first teaser for the show’s upcoming fourth season. Josh, Tom, Ella and Hannah are driving up the Great Ocean Road! It’s Hannah’s birthday! They have bunting! Everyone’s singing! Tom is dancing!

Fair warning: this is exactly how this show sucks you in before karate chopping you in the heart.

Season four of Please Like Me is hitting ABC in a little under three weeks time and, judging from some sneak peaks at the episode descriptions, it’s not going to be quite as cheery as that trailer would have you believe.

Because we all get a morbid joy out of being emotionally savaged by shows like this, I won’t go into specifics. But I will say, Josh’s first big crush Geoffrey is back, Deborah Mailman is joining the cast at some point, and John is thankfully still around to lesson the burden of this cruel, disturbingly true-to-life world.

Never change, John.
