Earlier today Israel launched a ground assault on the Gaza Strip, backed up by tanks, artillery and airstrikes. Over the last week a number of news outlets and journalists have set up shop on a hill near the Israeli town of Sderot, as the view from the hill overlooks large parts of northern Gaza, and reported on the rockets and shells being exchanged by Israeli forces and Gazan militants.

Eight days ago, Danish journalist Allan Sørensen posted this on Twitter:

When the invasion began in earnest early this morning Australian time, CNN reported that Israelis had gathered on the hill again to watch the bombs fall on Gaza. In the below video, a number of people can be heard cheering and clapping as a guided missile falls from the sky into the Strip.

The CNN reporter in the footage, Diana Magnay, later Tweeted that the crowd had “threatened to destroy” her car if she reported further on what was happening and called them “scum”, before deleting the tweet shortly after.
