Pass It On: Jamaica’s Bobsled Team Lost Their Heats, But Won An Excellent Official Theme Song
"Some people say they know they cant believe / Jamaica we have a bobsled team."
Earlier this year, a Dogecoin fundraiser and an Indiegogo and Crowdtilt campaign combined, raising over $130,000 to send Jamaica’s fairly unlikely two-man bobsled team to the Winter Olympics.
It was one of those heartwarming stories that the internet was made for — with the added benefit of having a very similar plot to 1993 cult film, Cool Runnings.
Sochi held the official heats to the two-man bobsled race this morning. Surprising nobody, Jamaica came dead last in both, trailing the leaders, Russia, by over four and a half seconds.
But it wasn’t the numbers that counted. It was the spirit of the thing.
To rally support around the team, the Jamaican national tourism board released a delightful new theme song and 8bit video, proving that they take the whole thing just as seriously as we do.
Created by Sidney Mills and Jon Notar, ‘The Bobsled Song‘ was designed to perfectly accompany the Jamaican team’s descent down the run. “Press play the moment the Jamaican bobsled team begins their big race,” the video explains. “You’ll be amazed how the song syncs perfectly with the course itself.”
