Liam Gallagher has thrown down the proverbial gauntlet to his estranged brother Noel, declaring on Twitter that it’s time for Oasis to finally reunite.

The legendary Britpop outfit split back in 2009 after years of infighting and physical backstage tussles — the most notorious happening just moments before their headline slot at Paris’ Rock En Seine festival, in which Liam threw a plum at Noel’s head and allegedly came at him wielding a guitar “like an axe”.

They ended up cancelling the entire performance minutes before it was meant to begin — and a few hours later Noel announced the band were officially over.

In the years since, the brothers each embarked on solo careers and various side projects — some more successful than others — and, of course, frequently lobbed verbal grenades at each other in the press.

Whenever an interviewer broached the subject of a potential Oasis reunion with either of the brothers, they generally answered some variation of ‘No fookin’ way’. But now…maybe there’s some hope.

Last night, Liam directly addressed Noel on Twitter, writing that it’s time to “get the BIG O back together”:

Now…this isn’t the first time in recent months that Liam has thrown an olive branch at Noel’s head. Back in December he suggested they should get together for Christmas drinks — but this is the first time Liam has directly addressed his brother about a potential reunion.

While Oasis fans around the world are predictably going nuts at the possibility, it’s worth remembering that Noel has consistently been against the reunion — unless the band are offered a fucktonne of money, of course.

So who knows, perhaps this is a tentative first step to one of the biggest reunions of a generation…or it’s just Liam taking the piss. Either or.

So until we find out, get around Music Junkee’s interview with Liam that we recorded a few months back. Spoiler: he says ‘fuck’ a lot.
