Nick Xenophon Just Released The Wildest, Daggiest Campaign Ad Of All Time
It's both the best and the worst campaign ad of all time.
You guys, Nick Xenophon’s SA Best party just released its first TV ad in the lead-up to the South Australian election, and strap in, because it’s really… something.
If you need a refresher, SA Best is the party Nick Xenophon formed when he abruptly quit federal parliament to contest the state election back in October. In just a couple of months, the new party has become a genuine threat to the political establishment — they’re running enough candidates and polling well enough to have a shot at winning the election outright, or any party that wants to form government is almost certainly going to need their support.
They’re doing things differently, and their new ad does too.
The ad features Nick Xenophon whitely rapping, multiple Bollywood dance scenes, a Hip and Cool skateboarding montage, and some seductive posing on hay bales. It’s also got a chorus of bopping candidates in a heartwarming singalong that evokes Labor’s classic “It’s Time” ad (which is probably before most Junkee readers’ time. You can check it out here if you’d like).
In short, it’s the weirdest, daggiest political ad you’ve ever seen, and it’s surprisingly catchy to boot. You’re either going to love it or hate it, but tbh it’s a pretty welcome relief from the bizarre smear campaigns that usually run on TV during election season in this country.
Watch it for yourself here, and then tell us what you think.
