The Next Doctor Who Could Be The Horny Guy From ‘Love Actually’ And People Aren’t Happy
A lot of fans are hoping for a woman or a person of colour. Instead they might be getting this guy.
Peter Capaldi is leaving Doctor Who at the end of this season, and people are already speculating about who his replacement will be.
Lately, some fans have been calling for the next Doctor to be a woman or a person of colour (or both). After five decades, the thinking goes, it seems like well past time that non-white, non-male viewers were given the chance to see themselves reflected in one of the most enduring pop-culture characters of all time.
Alternatively, the BBC could just go ahead and cast this guy.

That is Kris Marshall. He appeared in Death at a Funeral and A Few Best Men, and most recently starred in the past few seasons of the detective show Death in Paradise. My aunt likes that show, personally I can’t really comment.
Most people, however, know him as that creepy guy Colin from Love Actually who flies to Wisconsin because he can’t find anyone to fuck him in England.

Rumours that Marshall could play the 13th Doctor have been floating around for a while now, to the point that Marshall addressed the speculation in an interview with The Herald Sun. “[I’m] very flattered to be considered by the good public,” he told the paper last month, but quickly added that he “wouldn’t put any money on it yet.”
Still, the buzz has continued to build, with Mirror Online quoting an anonymous source over the weekend who said that “Kris Marshall has already joined the cast and will regenerate at the end of this series.” The source also told the paper that “they won’t risk a woman Doctor” and “they want a David Tennant type.”
Marshall has yet to comment publically on the matter, while the BBC refuted claims that a casting decision has been made. Nevertheless, the reaction from fans has been preeeetttty vocal.
I want that ‘Kris Marshall as the new Doctor” story to be false more than any other news story and I’m saying that in 2017.

Kris Marshall as Doctor Who feels like one of those news stories that was actually a trap to identify a leak in the Doctor Who offices.

My wife is still in a blissful state of being where Kris Marshall isn’t Doctor Who. I just can’t bring myself to break the news to her.

A fair amount of the criticism has centered around the fact that Marshall wouldn’t exactly be the most adventurous casting choice in the world.

Then there are the people who just can’t get past his role as a guy who spends (presumably) hundreds of pounds on an airline tickets just so he can get laid.
If Kris Marshall really is the new Doctor, I’m concerned I’ll think of this every time he’s on screen. #DoctorWho#LoveActuallypic.twitter.com/aIzwzL9nBu

For what it’s worth, Marshall’s casting remains a rumour, so it’s probably not worth getting too worked up about. Yet.
