After releasing a sick new movie poster yesterday, the Incredibles 2 trailer has dropped overnight, and there’s a lot to unpack.

“So are we going to talk about it?”, says Violet at the start of the trailer. “Mum’s new job?”

That’s the premise of the movie: Elastigirl is enlisted by a slimy-looking lawyer to help “bring supers back into the sunlight”.

It’s a change that affects the whole family: Mr Incredible stays behind in the family’s brand new home, where he learns how to look after a very special baby Jack-Jack, a cranky pre-teen Dash, and stereotypical teenager Violet.

And the change leaves the family a little conflicted. Elastigirl worries that “to help my family I’ve gotta leave it, to fix the law I’ve gotta break it.”

The trailer also reassures fans that our favourite characters from the 14-year-old original Incredibles movie will return.

Edna Mode — voiced by director Brad Bird — will star again, as well as super sidekick Frozone.

The trailer even includes a scene that harks back to the infamous “Honey, where’s my super-suit?” bit from the original.

For the first time, the trailer has also hinted at a new villain (there’s no mention of the Underminer this time). That villain is called Screen Slaver, and we don’t know much about him yet.

Also, Violet can now throw her force fields. Nice.
