No sign of Neil Patrick Harris as Count Olaf. At least, not yet.

One of the most anticipated programs on Netflix’s slate for next year is their eight part adaptation of A Series of Unfortunate Events. Based on the wonderfully morbid children’s book series by author Daniel Handler, the episodes hit the streaming service on Friday January 13. According to the show’s first trailer, you definitely shouldn’t watch them.

The 80 second teaser doesn’t give us much – there’s no sign of the Baudelaire orphans, and only the most fleeting hint of Neil Patrick Harris as the nefarious Count Olaf. What we do get is Patrick Warburton as Handler’s alter ego Lemony Snicket, advising viewers to tune in to something else instead. “Please, don’t make the same mistake that Netflix has,” he implores us. “Look away before this dire tale is even filmed, and avoid the cruel whimsy, and whimsical cruelty, of what’s to come.”

Fun guy, that Snicket. Real fun guy.

Every episode of A Series of Unfortunate Events will be released on Netflix on January 13.
