Her accent, it is terrible.

We’re only a few days out from this year’s MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs), which are screening in Australia on Monday morning. These are the same awards that launched a thousand think pieces when Miley Cyrus performed with Robin Thicke in 2013 — and the same awards which Cyrus hijacked in 2014 to draw attention to youth homelessness by way of a very handsome young homeless man (who ended up in jail for violating his probation).

It makes sense that one of the VMAs’ biggest trending topics would be asked back this year to host the whole thing, and Cyrus has been on the late night circuit to get America talking about it.

Last night she appeared on Jimmy Kimmel with a pre-recorded segment, hitting the streets of L.A. dressed as an Australian reporter — with a terrible accent and a delightful amount of self-awareness — to ask the country what they really thought of her.

Spoiler: not much.

Also on the show, Cyrus appeared on Kimmel’s couch in an extremely sparkly cape/skirt/pastie combo, to talk about nudity, nipples, and how her dad, Billy Ray, feels about her public persona: “He’d rather me have my tits out and be a good person than have my shirt on and be a bitch.”

The MTV Video Music Awards screen from 10am on Monday August 31, on Foxtel’s MTV Australia.
