Warner Brothers is reportedly thinking about casting Black Panther star Michael B. Jordan as Superman as it looks to reset its DC Universe films. And please, please, please let this be a thing.

Deadline wrote about the casting rumours after news broke that Henry Cavill will not reprise his role as Superman in future DC movies, having previously played the character in Man of SteelBatman vs. Superman and Justice League.

“The word has been out that Warner Bros. has been mulling a completely different direction with its Superman canon for some time, even considering casting Michael B. Jordan in the role down the road,” the publication reported.

Casting a talented young black actor as the world’s most iconic superhero would be a massive win for on-screen diversity. It would also piss off a shitload of racists. In other words, a win-win.

Of course, the rumours are just rumours, and should probably be taken with a fairly large pinch of salt. According to Deadline, Warner Bros. is currently more focused on getting a Supergirl movie into production, while they’ve also got Aquaman and a Wonder Woman sequel in the works. A studio spokesperson told the publication that “we have made no current decisions regarding any upcoming Superman films”.

Still, there’s no harm in keeping our fingers crossed.

More powerful than a locomotive.
