Michael B. Jordan Just Excellently Roasted Roseanne Barr At The MTV Awards

Michael B. Jordan just took home the trophy for Best Villain at this year’s MTV Awards, and he took the occasion to make a dig at disgraced actress Rosanne Barr.

While accepting his award for playing the Very Evil And Hot Erik Killmonger in Black Panther, Jordan joked that he was surprised to win.

“I thought for sure Roseanne had that in the bag,” he said.

It’s a small comment, but loaded. Last month, the incredibly popular reboot of Roseanne was cancelled after its creator and star let loose a series of slurs on Twitter, the last straw after a series of out-spoken comments.

Syndication of the show’s original series was also pulled from US network ABC, and closer to home, Network Ten dropped the reboot from programming.

Barr later tried to blame the Tweets on taking too much Ambien. In case you were wondering, Sanofi, the pharmaceutical company behind the sedative, were quick to clarify that “racism is not a known side effect of any Sanofi medication.”

As to be expected, Twitter loved Jordan’s short-but-severe comment.

It wasn’t the ceremony’s only slight against Barr. Earlier in the night, Olivia Munn shouted out real world heroes while announcing the nominees for Best Hero, listing off the likes of fireman, teachers and “the guy that cancelled Roseanne” (though ABC president Channing Dungey is a woman).

This year’s awards were hosted by Tiffany Haddish, the ceremony’s first female African American host.

Jordan’s award was one of many for Wakanda, as Black Panther raked in awards, including Best Film. Chadwick Boseman also took out two trophies for his portrayal of King T’Challa, as Best Hero and Best Performance.

Speaking of, Jordan also jokingly pleaded with Black Panther fans to stop asking Boseman to say “Wakanda Forever”, since it’s very, very clear he’s over it.
