Melbourne Music Week is set to take over the city over nine days from November 11 to 19, showcasing the best and brightest among the city’s famously thriving music scene. This year, it’s going to be big — with a crammed lineup of performances taking over spaces such as the iconic MCG, Melbourne Town Hall, to the historic State Library of Victoria.

The State Library of Victoria has just been unveiled this year’s festival hub, which is celebrating its 160th anniversary this year. The opening night showcase — Her Sound, Her Story: A Celebration of Women in Music — will take place in the Queen’s Hall on Friday, November 11. Featuring a tonne of high-profile artists, including Julia Stone, Ella HooperMama Kin, Montaigne, Mojo Juju, Ecca VandalElizabeth Rose, Airling and Nyne, the showcase will look back over decades of Australian music, paying tribute to female artists past and present.

The Drones are also rearing their heads: appearing at Melbourne Town Hall on the Sunday, supported by up and comers My Disco. Meanwhile, the MCG is being transformed into a mini festival on the 13th, with punters being able to wander around the grounds (even the player’s change rooms) taking in performances from The Delta Riggs, Pierce Brothers, and a heap of local acts.

American synth-pop visionary Zola Jesus will appear at the Melbourne Recital Centre on Monday November 14. The Face The Music conference is also taking place within the week, over two days from November 17.

In short: there’s A LOT going on, and this is only the beginning. The full program will be revealed on October 4. For more info head here.
