Melania Trump Just Visited Kids In Detention Wearing A Jacket That Said “I Really Don’t Care”

Her staff say there's no hidden message, probably because it was WRITTEN IN MASSIVE LETTERS.

First Lady of the United States Melania Trump went on a surprise visit to see kids in detention today, which was real nice except for the fact that she wore a jacket with the words “I really don’t care, do u?” painted on the back in giant, unmissable letters.

Yep, she seriously did that, and the world can’t quite handle what they’re seeing. The kids she was visiting are the children separated from their parents by immigration officials under a new policy that’s been described as “nothing short of torture”, and the world has been absolutely up in arms about it for the past week.

A reasonable person might think the one message to absolutely avoid during this crisis is the suggestion that you don’t give a shit, but then again, it’s pretty clear at this point that the Trumps are not exactly reasonable people.

See for example the fact that rather than apologise for the odd sartorial choice, they’ve doubled down. “It’s a jacket. There was no hidden message. After today’s important visit to Texas, I hope the media isn’t going to choose to focus on her wardrobe,” Melania’s spokesperson Stephanie Grisham told media. Technically, she’s right that there was no hidden message — it was painted, unmistakably, on the jacket’s exterior.

Trump, meanwhile, has tweeted that the phrase on the jacket apparently “refers to the Fake News Media”, because “Melania has learned how dishonest they are, and she truly no longer cares”.

This has struck people as… somewhat at odds with what Melania’s spokesperson’s claim that there wasn’t actually a hidden message.

And whether or not it was a hidden message, she’s getting slammed for wearing it.

Meanwhile, some people are convinced that the jacket was a deliberate distraction from something nefarious the Trumps are up to today. While Trump signed an executive order that would stop the separation of migrant families yesterday, more than a few people have pointed out concerning loopholes in that order, including the fact that it makes no move to reunite the families that have already been torn apart.

Even in the case that the jacket is a distraction, though, it seems like people are probably capable of getting angry about it while also keeping their eye on the problem. Unlike Melania, they really do care.
