Good news, Matt Okine lovers! The former triple j host’s new TV show is getting closer and closer to becoming a reality and we now have your first look.

The Other Guy is a six-part series created by Okine and produced by Stan. It’s based on his stand-up show of the same name which is, in turn, based more than a little on his own life. The story follows a young Sydney radio host AJ (Okine, duh) as he finds out his girlfriend of 10 years has been having an affair with his best friend.

As Okine says in the just-released behind-the-scenes footage, the show figures out what happens when you “break up and have to navigate [your] interweaving lives”. If the below clip is anything to go by, it also features a whole lot of AJ hooning around on a mobility scooter and having cute Aziz Ansari-style hangs with his TV dad.

The Other Guy is stacked with amazing Australian talent on- and off-screen. Okine developed the script with fellow comedian Becky Lucas (who has did some great writing work on Please Like Me) and Greg Waters (who’s been involved with Soul Mates and Dance Academy). The show is directed by Kacie Anning who created Fragments of Friday and the Sydney Opera House’s ‘Minister For Men’ sketches. And Okine is joined on-screen by Harriet Dyer (No Activity), Magda Szubanski (Kath & Kim), Christiaan van Vuuren (Bondi Hipsters) and Briggs.

The colonel’s about to cop a visit.
