Sydney singer and facial hair enthusiast Matt Corby has returned with a new single, ‘No Ordinary Life’.

It’s the first piece of new music from Corby since his album Telluric back in 2016, which shot to #1 on the ARIA album charts off the back of singles like ‘Monday’ and ‘Knife Edge’. The track is quite a psychedelic shift for Corby, and there’s a reason for that: it was inspired by Willy Wonka

“We were using Willy Wonka as a reference, literally, as a way to write melodies,” Corby says of the track. “I know that sounds a bit crazy, but that film has some strong melodic ideology. For some reason when you say ‘Willy Wonka’, it sets a mood — this magical, hyper-melodic, crooning, beautiful thing, a journey into the whimsical.

“We tried to make this song and a few others in that vein — as joyous as possible, which is definitely a change to what I used to do.”

‘No Ordinary Life’ is the first cut off Corby’s highly anticipated new album — as yet untitled — which is due out later in the year. There’s no word yet on whether he’ll be taking the new single out on the road, but here’s hoping.
