Some Mad Genius Stitched ‘Mario Kart’ And ‘Star Wars’ Together And The End Result’s Better Than Either
This needs to be turned into a real game immediately.
Mario Kart 64 took up far more of my late high-school years than I care to admit, especially once I learned how to run a Nintendo 64 emulator on my laptop and the HSC rolled around. I may have phoned in my final exams, but I could put your ass to shame in the Banshee Boardwalk time trial.
MK64 has stood the test of time in a way that few racing games have; the Star Wars franchise tried to muscle in on the action with 2000’s Star Wars Episode 1: Racer, and while that game sold like crazy it didn’t have the same lasting cultural impact that the Mario Kart franchise has had, largely because it was tied to a movie that everyone would sincerely like to forget.
Given the enduring appeal of Mario Kart, and the universal cultural recognition of the Star Wars universe, it’d be a hell of a thing to see the two combined. Which is exactly what YouTube video channel Dark Pixel have gone and done. The product of more than a year of work, ‘Star Kart’ needs to be turned into a real-life game immediately — although if it is you could probably measure the resulting drop-off in the world’s attention span.
