Have A Listen To The Best New Music Of This Week
There’s so much new music coming out each week that it’s hard to keep track… but don’t worry, we got you. Here are a few of our favourite new singles – all from Australian artists – to listen to over the weekend.
#1 Wafia — ‘83’
It’s been a while since we’ve heard new solo music from Wafia, who last released a collaborative EP with Ta-Ku in 2016. New track ’83’ is a beautiful new single from the 23-year-old Australian artist, co-written with Ben Abraham and produced by Toro. It’s also the first taste of a new EP coming later this year on tastemaking label Future Classic.
The track is smooth and sweet; though honey on the ears, it came from a darker place. According to Wafia, “This song comes after someone I love wouldn’t stay. I developed an obsession with noting down the ways their absence was so loud and present. How intangible they had become. How intangible the memories I was left with are.”
#2 Slow Dancer — ‘I Would’
There’s a rich, depth and fluidity to Slow Dancer, exhibited on new track ‘I Would’. Together with the bright, jangly guitars that take centre stage later on, ‘I Would’ is gorgeous and enveloping, even if acoustic-centric folk isn’t your typical fare. Taken from
Taken from upcoming album In A Mood, the sweet track – though written alone, in a bedroom in the dead of night – emits a warm, comforting glow, like sitting by a fire on a cold, snowy morning.
#3 Love Deluxe — ‘Cool Breeze Over The Mountains’
Love Deluxe is a new Sydney artist who only goes by a mysterious moniker. Rather than an act, a press release instead describes Love Deluxe as “a feeling. A beautiful sunset”.
Reportedly named after the meaning of Keanu Reeves’ Hawaiian name, debut single ‘Cool Breeze Over The Mountains’ comes ahead of Love Deluxe’s debut EP.
It’s bouncy, it’s breezy, it immediately feels like home. It’s spacey and fun, the kind of track you wouldn’t mind hearing a few times on repeat, which is lucky, as there’s a lot more where that came from.
#4 The Kite String Tangle — ‘The Prize’ Ft. Bridgette Amofah
It’s funny to think that Danny Harley, aka The Kite String Tangle, is yet to release a full album. His presence has been felt in the Australian electronic scene for years, having continued to build a reputation for his melodic, emotional electronic music.
His eponymous debut album is set for release on July 14. In the meantime, we’ve been gifted ‘The Prize’, featuring Bridgette Amofah of Rudimental. The bouncy track kicks off with a swift beat, before taking a melodic route that’s bigger and bouncier than some of his earlier work, especially once we reach the chorus.
#5 Rufus — ‘Innerbloom’ (Dustin Tebbutt & Lisa Mitchell Cover)
Two of Australia’s loveliest voices have covered one of Australia’s most globally-adored electronic numbers, and in a word: wow.
You’d be forgiven for assuming a dance-floor ready track like the Rufus original, taken from last year’s album Bloom, wouldn’t lend itself to fine, angelic harmonies and acoustic guitars.
Despite this, Dustin and Lisa – who are currently on tour together – have absolutely proved that the track works as well in a club as it does when set to little more than a gentle beat and soft guitars.
