Sydney singer Gordi used her time on triple j’s Like A Version this morning to pay tribute to the late Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington.

The singer took on the band’s epic 2000 hit ‘In The End’, from their album Hybrid Theory, transforming the rock track into a moving cover complete with harps and a saxophone. Jack Frogget from Sydney band Mansionair supplied backing vocals, while members of Melbourne band Saskwatch helped out on percussion.

Hybrid Theory was the first record I bought with my own money, and ‘In The End’ was the first song I remember connecting to,” Gordi told Breakfast hosts Ben and Liam before delivering the cover.

“It’s such a beautiful song and it’s such a tragedy about Chester… he gave the world such a gift, especially for that album.”

Bennington was found dead in his LA home in July. Numerous artists have paid tribute in the months since, including New York rapper JAY-Z, who dedicated a performance of ‘Numb/Encore’ to Bennington at a show in the UK.
