Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington has died, aged 41.

Bennington was found deceased in his Los Angeles home today, with news of his passing confirmed by both LA authorities and his Linkin Park bandmate, Mike Shinoda. A spokesperson for the LA County coroner confirmed the death was being investigated as an apparent suicide.

Bennington released seven albums with Linkin Park, including their wildly-popular 2000 debut Hybrid Theory, which went five times platinum in Australia. The band’s most recent album, One More Light, was released just two months ago. They were due to play in three US shows this week.

The frontman was a close friend of Soundgarden singer Chris Cornell, who died in May, and sang at his funeral. “I’m still weeping, with sadness, as well as gratitude for having shared some very special moments with you and your beautiful family,” Bennington wrote in an emotional letter to Cornell on the day of his death.

“You have inspired me in many ways you could never have known. Your talent was pure and unrivalled. your voice was joy and pain, anger and forgiveness, love and heartache all wrapped up into one.” Today would have been Cornell’s 53rd birthday.
