This Instagram Account Is Photoshopping All The Men Out Of Australian Festival Line-Ups
Depressingly perfect.
Australian hip-hop festival Jumanji made headlines last week, though probably not for reasons its promoters would like. The cause of the controversy? There are 13 acts on Jumanji’s 2018 line-up, and each of them are male.
The event was bombarded with criticism for failing to book any female artists, and one of the acts on the bill — Brisbane’s Midas.Gold — even called out the festival on Facebook. Jumanji were eventually forced to issue a statement responding to the backlash, claiming that while they attempted to book female acts this year, they were all “either unavailable or not within our budget.”
Jumanji definitely aren’t alone when it comes to copping heat for shitty line-ups. During their set at Byron Falls Festival earlier this year, Melbourne band Camp Cope edited some of their lyrics in the song ‘The Opener’ to call out organisers for only putting nine women on the line-up. A lack of diversity on Australian festival line-ups is something we’ve been talking about more and more in the past year.
Now, an Instagram account called ‘Lineups Without Males‘ is highlighting just how terrible some Australian festivals are when it comes to booking female, trans and GNC talent.
