An aspiring Liberal candidate has dropped his bid to rep the party after it emerged that he once penned a cringeworthy sex memoir titled – and I hope you’re sitting down for this – Around the World in 80 Babes.

Nigel Gohl was running for preselection in the inner-Melbourne seat of Prahran, which the Liberals hope to win back from the Greens at next year’s Victorian state election. But on Friday the 42-year-old mortgage broker and self-described former dating coach (how was that not a red flag?) withdrew from the race after the party became aware of his 2005 magnum opus, a “true story” about a globe-trotting “modern Casanova” whose favourite things include “chicks, babes, women and nudity”.

The Age has been good enough to publish a number of excerpts from Gohl’s book and oh boy are they something. “While I loved pounding her athletic body, she bored me to tears with her desires to spend Saturday AND Sunday mornings going for walks and picnics,” Gohl writes of one woman. “After detaching myself from the picnic lifestyle and knowing that I could now fart freely in bed, I became a happy man.”

In another passage, Gohl offers a few words on the art of seduction. “The quicker you can get the first date out of the way and the time needed for a girl to feel comfortable with you, the quicker you start getting laid!” he advises. “It started to become common practice for me to meet a girl on Friday night, have a drink on Tuesday or Wednesday before a most excellent bonking session the following Saturday night.”

“If a woman is attracted to you, she won’t have any choice but to be drawn to you,” the book insists.

Victorian Liberal leader Matthew Guy has slammed Gohl’s behaviour, calling it “demeaning to women”.
