Melbourne might have have been declared the world’s most “liveable city”, but Sydney does pretty damn well when it comes to cultural innovation. We’ve got some of the best food and liquor entrepreneurs in the country. Whether it’s amazing gelato (Messina), tasty burgers (Mary’s), or refreshing brews (Young Henry’s), it all kicked off in old Sydney town.

Now the folks behind the scenes are getting together to share their tips on innovation and how to make it in the industry.  Declan Lee from Messina, Jake Smyth from Mary’s, Ramzey Choker, the founder of The Grounds of Alexandria and Oscar McMahon, the co-founder of Young Henrys are teaming up for the first Made In Sydney event run by General Assembly.

They’ll be joined by Jennifer Lam, the founding editor at I Ate My Way Through, Emma-Kate Dobbin from The News Garden and Mina Nada from Deliveroo to discuss how the world of food, brews, innovation and entrepreneurship collide. Each speaker will be sharing their top tips on how to create and market a new idea that pushes the boundaries of cultural innovation.

If you’ve ever thought about starting up your own microbrewery, cafe, or really any kind of entrepreneurial endeavour, it’s probably worth heading along to hear what some of the most successful folk in the food and liquor industry have to say.

The event is just the first part of General Assembly’s Made In Sydney series. They’re also running a session on design thinking, using the case study of Australia’s Census nightmare to help break down how crowd sourcing can be used to find innovative solutions. Chad Gillad, the co-founder of Future Classic, will be hosting an event on Sydney’s music scene, why it’s unique and how we can make it even better.

If you’re not in Sydney don’t stress because the team at General Assembly will running a “Made In Melbourne” series as well with all details to be announced.

The Made In Sydney series kicks off tonight at the aMBUSH Event Space in Central Park on Broadway. You can grab all the details here.
