Say what you will about the overall quality of the past decade’s worth of Simpsons episodes, but one thing that the producers have been nailing in recent years are the show’s increasingly elaborate couch gags. They’ve featured multiple openings from cult animator Bill Plimpton including this one where Homer straight-up bangs the couch, a Halloween-themed gag by Pan’s Labyrinth director Guillermo del Toro, and this truly mind-boggling offering from Don Hertzfeldt that might legitimately be the strangest thing the show has ever done.

Oh, and who could forget Banksy’s contribution?

They’ve also paid tribute to various other animated shows, doing a gag in the style of Robot Chicken and recently getting Rick and Morty to kill the entire family. Continuing this tradition, the opening titles to the first episode of Season 28 (yeah, you’re old) sees the citizens of Springfield reimagined as characters from Adventure Time.

Fans of either show should get a kick out of the 60-second sequence, which features plenty of easter eggs including Mr. Burns as the Ice King, Maggie as Princess Bubblegum, as well as the long-awaited return of the inanimate carbon rod.
