‘Last Week Tonight’ Just Got Michael Bolton To Describe The IRS As “America’s Anus” In Song
It all makes sense, trust us.
On the latest Last Week Tonight, John Oliver promised a sexy surprise to induce the audience to sit through an 18-minute segment on the IRS, which turned out not to be boring anyway because John Oliver could make reading through the phone book exciting, informative and excessively British.
But as promised, said sexy surprise turned up about thirteen minutes in — in the form of your aunt Judy’s great unrequited love Michael Bolton, to sing a ballad in tribute to the IRS by comparing them to the ultimate unpleasant-but-ultimately-necessary body part, the anus.
Michael Bolton, for the uninitiated, is the ’80s crooner behind ‘When A Man Loves A Woman’ who has since assumed a place in the internet post-irony pantheon by playing the other Michael Bolton who so despised him in an affectionate riff on Office Space. He’s clearly embraced his new Rick Astley-style fame, which means we can probably expect him to cameo in a Game of Thrones spoof with his nephew Ramsay sometime soon.
