Former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has tweeted that his godson was punched yesterday while standing up for marriage equality. The tweet contained a picture of his godson after the alleged attack, showing a large bloody gash on his face.

The incident appears to be the same as one posted to Facebook by Queensland page Bulimba for Marriage Equality earlier today. The post included the same picture and an appeal for anyone with information to come forward.

According to Bulimba for Marriage Equality, the alleged perpetrator was pulling down rainbow flags around Bulimba, yelling “I hate faggots” while he did. Sean then responded “that’s okay, I don’t like you,” to which the man responded “are you calling me a homophobe?”

The man then allegedly assaulted Sean at the bus stop and walked away.

Queensland Police confirmed that they have received a report of an assault of a 19-year-old in Bulimba occuring around 9am yesterday, where the victim received a cut to his face. They are currently investigating the report.

Junkee has reached out to Sean and Kevin Rudd for comment. We’ll update this post if they respond.
