Katy Perry has a new music video coming out for her latest single, ‘Birthday’. Because we are living in the world in which we live, it has been preceded by both a lyric video and, now, a trailer: ‘World’s Worst Birthday Party Entertainers’.

In the film clip trailer, which I’m sorry but I still can’t believe is an actual genre, Perry plays a few characters — some well, some not so well. There’s an old ex-Las Vegas dancer (eh), a drunk teenage clown (great), a Paris Hilton-esque princess face-painter (would hire based on the vocal fry alone), and, yes, a sweaty, thick-talking Bar Mitzvah DJ telling bad Rabbi jokes.

While it’s not the most offensive thing in the world, “for a price, I’ll do your funeral” isn’t the most subtle dig — and the whole thing does flirt with being hypocritical.

“Why did the pop star promote her next big hit with a hackneyed ethnic stereotype?” asks Salon. The answer is pretty obvious, Salon: so you will write about it.
