Justin Bieber Gets Shot And Mugatu Rises In The New ‘Zoolander 2’ Trailer
Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson are still really, really, really ridiculously good looking.
A solid 15 years after it came out, and announced via an appearance at Paris Fashion Week back in March, Zoolander‘s sequel is nearly upon us. The first trailer to this much-delayed wonder dropped overnight, and unlike the sequel to that other great early-2ooos enterprise, Anchorman, it actually looks kinda funny.
Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson hold up remarkably well, considering they’re now 50 and 47 respectively, and a strong supporting cast looks to inject some different comedic voices into the mix. Kristen Wiig is a power-hungry fashion mogul behind a trowel-load of make-up, Mugatu gets out of jail, and Justin Bieber manages to take a good-looking selfie before abruptly dying.
But it’s not all Blue Steel and roses. The trailer’s drawn fire for seemingly mocking trans and gender diverse people through Benedict Cumberbatch’s character All, an androgynous model asked whether “you have a hot-dog or a bun”. It’s a weird and off-colour moment in an otherwise promising trailer, and it’s distressing to think a movie of this pedigree is going to resort to punching down by making jokes about non-cisgender people’s genitals like an Adam Sandler movie.
