John Oliver, Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart Trade Insults During HBO’s Charity Benefit
Spoilers: the real winner was Samantha Bee.
The kings of late night spent Saturday evening roasting the crap out of one another, during HBO’s annual autism benefit Night of Too Many Stars.
Jon Stewart was chosen to emcee the charity broadcast, but was quickly interrupted by his former protege turned Late Show host Stephen Colbert.
“I know we’re friends,” said Colbert. “But as a friend I gotta tell you, you’re really fucking this one up.”
It wasn’t long before they were joined by another Daily Show alumnus, as Last Week Tonight host John Oliver rolled onto the stage behind his signature desk.
“Jon, you’re doing a terrible job,” said Oliver. “Colbert, you’re doing more or less what I would expect for a man who serves up his nightly joke meatloaf to an audience full of unsuspecting tourists herded in from Bubba Gump Times Square.”
Oliver then attempted to rework the show into a format he felt more comfortable with. “Tonight, we’re going to be talking about prison recidivism rates in the pre-depression southern Midwest,” he said. “And we’re going to be talking about it for a very long time.”
“Here we go,” shot back Colbert. “Harry Potter and the half-hour lecture.”
So which of the three of them came out on top? Trick question, it was actually Samantha Bee.
You can watch the entire broadcast below. The sledging kicks off at around the 15 minute and 30 second mark.
