He also said Bob Katter had "a temperament to match his face".

Hey, remember Fraser Anning’s maiden address to Parliament? The extremely racist one his boss Bob Katter called “magnificent” and “solid gold”? Well John Oliver just found out about it, and went in hard on both men during Sunday night’s episode of Last Week Tonight.

“In a speech arguing in favour of a return to a white Australia policy, Anning suggested that having a popular vote would be a good ‘final solution’,” explained Oliver. “Which is just not a phrase you want to throw around, for pretty obvious reasons.”

“It’s the same reason that we don’t name babies Adolf anymore, or have tiny moustaches, or call yoga retreats ‘concentration camps’.”

Oliver also called bullshit on Katter, who defended Anning’s remarks on the grounds that Anning didn’t go to university.

“I really hope in Australia you don’t have to go to university to have heard about the holocaust,” the comedian quipped.

Oliver went on to describe Katter as a man “with a temperament to match his face”, adding that “underneath his eccentric personality is the heart of a truly unpleasant human being”.

He then ran his viewers through a greatest hits package of Katter’s recent career — including the time he called for people from the Middle East and North Africa to be barred from entering Australia, and the time he accused gay people of stealing the word ‘gay’.

And yes, before you ask, the “one thousand blossoms bloom” rant also got a mention.
