Perhaps the only good thing to come out of the Tony Abbott Prime Ministership was the gleeful reaction his every idiotic move got from Last Week Tonight host John Oliver, who joined the national pastime of Abbott-bashing with an unbridled joy when he came out here for a comedy tour last month.

But now that Tone has gone to that farm upstate where deposed Prime Ministers run around and chase bunnies, it’s fitting that Oliver observed a solemn moment of remembrance on the Oscars red carpet earlier today, pouring one out for our newest ex-PM and giving Australia some extremely good advice:

“I don’t know what the point of Tony Abbott was, but it was fun while it lasted. It was like taking heroin: it was incredibly exhilarating, and it was good that you stopped.”
