Trust John Mayer to come through with the most memeable video of 2018.

The singer-songwriter has today dropped the music video for his single ‘New Light’, which sees him frolic in front of some amazingly shitty green screen backgrounds. We’re talking African plains, the Grand Canyon, New York’s Times Square, a random office cubicle — the whole kit and kaboodle.

Like so:

According to Mayer, the clip was put together by a company who usually specialise in Bar Mitzvah videos.

“I needed to make a video for ‘New Light’ but nobody could agree on a budget (MUSIC INDUSTRY amirite?)” Mayer wrote on Facebook. “So I went to a place downtown and made this with a company that usually does birthday and Bar Mitzvah videos.”

As for the song itself, it’s the first piece of new music from Mayer since he released The Search For Everything last year. It was produced with renowned hip-hop studio whiz No I.D. — who you might know from Kanye West’s ‘Bound 2’ and ‘Black Skinhead’, or JAY-Z’s ‘The Story of O.J.’ and ‘4:44’.

The track is the lead single from Mayer’s upcoming album, which will be his eighth.

But tbh, we’re more excited about the gifs:
