Joe Hockey And His Beautiful Skin Crashed ‘Sunrise’ And Was Awkward About Hillary Clinton In New York This Morning
Joe, you little scamp.
If you love morning television and conservative politics (who doesn’t, amirite?), you got a fun surprise this morning when a routine live cross to Sunrise entertainment correspondent Nelson Aspen in New York was suddenly interrupted by Treasurer Joe Hockey’s beaming round visage looming from left-of-screen like a cheery blimp. Hockey was in another studio in the same building, and apparently gatecrashed the Sunrise broadcast like the cheeky neoliberal imp he is.
Aspen, who definitely knew who this random suited man was, complimented Hockey on his “beautiful complexion” and asked him what he thought of Hillary Clinton, which admittedly is a lot to process in a short amount of time. Joe did not handle the question well.
Politician’s mixed relationships with morning television have become a bit of a fixture in the current political climate, as exemplified when Australia’s two biggest morning show hosts thoroughly ruined the Prime Minister on live TV last year, but it’s one of the rare spots Hockey can find love anymore. Hockey has been a fixture on Channel 7’s Sunrise for years, first appearing in regular buddyish match-ups with then-Opposition Leader Kevin Rudd and frequently returning to the show since. One might question the Treasurer’s decision to talk smack about the presumptive future President of the United States on national television, but considering recent polls reveal him to be deeply unpopular with voters, that assumes he’ll still be Treasurer by the time the US election rolls around.
