“You Don’t Own Me”: Jessica Chastain’s ‘SNL’ Monologue Was All About Female Empowerment
The actress shouted out the hundreds of thousands of people who took part in the Women's March.
Actress Jessica Chastain made her SNL hosting debut on the same day as the second annual Women’s March — and that fact was definitely not lost on her.
“I’m really excited to be here, especially today, because this weekend is the one year anniversary of the [inaugural] Women’s March. And everyone knows women never forget an anniversary,” Chastain joked during her opening monologue.
“So today hundreds of thousands of people were out there for the cause. And they are so, so brave because it is the worst flu season ever. God bless them.”
Chastain was then joined on stage by SNL castmembers Kate McKinnon and Cecily Strong for a rendition of Lesley Gore’s ‘You Don’t Own Me’.
Also making an appearance was Aidy Bryant, who got everyone pink knitted “p-hats”.
“I can’t say the real word because it’s just one of those many words that only the president can use,” she explained.
