Jennifer Lawrence And Michael Fassbender Did An Adorably Dorky Live Read Of ‘The Big Lebowski’

Here’s a little fact that’s always nice to keep in mind: even huge celebrities — even huge celebrities who have been nominated for Academy Awards and starred in very serious sprawling historical dramas — can be enormous, ridiculous dorks. Some delightful proof for your consideration:

Over the weekend at Montreal’s Just For Laughs comedy festival, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Patton Oswalt, Mae Whitman, and Olivia Munn all took a break from their regular promo of X-Men Apocalypse up to do a live reading of cult comedy The Big Lebowski. And, in order to properly reprise Jeff Bridge’s legendary character of The Dude, Fassbender rocked up in cargo shorts, thongs, and a ratty old terrycloth robe.

On stage he started lazily downing cocktails, swearing, and chain-smoking cigarettes J-Law was rolling for him and, though it’s pretty unlikely they were made of stuff The Dude would actually abide by, they did provoke Patton Oswalt to call him “a little too method”. Also, his face kind of looks like a ball of warm Play-Doh in every photo from the night so who knows.

Though there’s no official footage of the event yet, some wonderful person did manage to record Jennifer Lawrence attempting Julianne Moore’s famous monologue as Maude Lebowski. It starts from around the two-minute mark and it features an on-point pronunciation of “vaginal”.
