Jeff Goldblum Fights Aliens In The Epic First Trailer For ‘Independence Day: Resurgence’
*Desperately scours clip for traces of Karl Stefanovic*
It’s been 20 years since aliens first invaded Earth, blew up the White House and screwed with Will Smith’s regular schedule of cracking jokes and chomping cigars in the first Independence Day. Now the world’s recovered all their sweet extraterrestrial tech, prepared a defence for when they finally come back, elected a female President to kick the aliens’ asses, and Will Smith — defender of the universe and a captain of the US Marines — has gone mysteriously and unceremoniously missing.
After basing pretty much all of his post-Fresh Prince career on the genre, he’s reportedly soured on all this sci-fi junk and won’t be appearing in the upcoming sequel Independence Day: Resurgence.
Can't have an Independence Day sequel without Will Smith. Go away and do it again.

While that may be disappointing to hardcore ’90s action dorks, it does however present a new and exciting opportunity for the rest of us. With Liam Hemsworth, Bill Pullman — and (briefly) Karl Stefanovic — by his side, we may now have a film where computer geek Jeff Goldblum steps up and saves the world.
The first trailer just dropped out of nowhere during a football game in the US and boy, I am surprisingly keen for it.
