Jay Z Would Like You To Stop Being Mean About How Badly ‘Tidal’ Is Doing, Please
Poor Jay Z.
Last week saw a bunch of articles outlining how premium music streaming app Tidal has comprehensively flopped in its first month of existence, with lacklustre download numbers and a poorly-received publicity campaign hamstringing its ambitions of taking on Spotify, Pandora and the dominant streaming model.
Would-be Tidal enthusiasts like Rihanna and Kanye West have been distancing themselves from the service recently, leaving its main spruiker Jay Z to bravely defend his unlovable music-baby on his lonesome. A few hours ago he did just that, taking to Twitter to try and turn the narrative around and give Tidal some breathing space.

Tidal is doing just fine. We have over 770,000 subs. We have been in business less than one month. #TidalFacts — Mr. Carter (@S_C_) April 26, 2015
The iTunes Store wasn’t built in a day. It took Spotify 9 years to be successful…

Tidal pays 75% royalty rate to ALL artists, writers and producers – not just the founding members on stage.

There are many big companies that are spending millions on a smear campaign. We are not anti-anyone, we are pro-artist & fan. #TidalFacts

We are human (even Daft Punk ha). We aren't perfect – but we are determined. #TidalFacts

“We aren’t perfect, but we are determined.” That’s some William Wallace-level oratory right there. Jay Z’s clearly got a lot invested in Tidal, in money and feelings both, but he’s having a very difficult time getting anyone else to care about it as much as he does if people’s response to #TidalFacts is anything to go by.
#TidalFacts nobody cares about Tidal
