If You Like Sneakers, Sydney’s Throwing A Whole Bunch Of Air Max-Themed Shindigs This Month

Brought to you by Nike

Nike: Month Of Air Max

We’ve teamed up with Nike Air Max to bring you Air Max Month. To get involved, register now to secure your spot. Limited places available. Find out more here.

Mum said the shoes from the supermarket were exactly the same as the Air Maxes everyone else had but they weren’t. They weren’t at all. Do you think LeBron James’ sneakers come boxless, held together with a plastic tie? Do you think Dizzee Rascal has to worry about sitting too close to the heater because his shoes might melt right onto his feet? No mum, because they wear Air Max.

Since 1987 Air Max has shod the world’s popular kids, from Dizzee and Lebron to Rita Ora and Lily Allen. Not satisfied with global domination, Air Max now has its own month. Held annually, it’s a major calendar event for sneaker lovers — and of those there are multitudes — around the world. In 2016, Nike will take over Sydney with a month-long series of Air Max-inspired events from the Air Max Lab, in Sydney’s Surry Hills. The studio will host a series of events and services, including an exhibition of uncovered curated collections from some of Australia’s most passionate collectors, which taps into Nike’s sporting heritage and revisit the Air Max genealogy throughout the years. Other events on the Air Max calendar look as tasty as this:

17th March: ARTISTS OF AIR

6pm – 8pm, 74 Commonwealth St, Surry Hills

This event celebrates the design heritage of the Air Max, featuring the work of some of Australia’s most talented artists: street artist Elliot Routledge of Numskull, paper sculptor Benja Harney, and video artist Joyce Ho, each commissioned to bring to life the design ethos of Nike’s Hiroshi Fujiwara, Tinker Hatfield and Mark Parker. With their artwork on display, this curated talk will explore the design and innovation heritage of the Nike Air Max, and how this plays into modern artistic culture.
